Hiking Package Monte Poro/Capo Vaticano:

The perfect mix is what distinguishes:

„Hiking, swimming and culture…“

Have you booked your vacation at Capo Vaticano and don’t want to lie just on the beach? In that case the 4-day hiking package is the right solution for you …

Discover the Calabrian mountains around Capo Vaticano on three days and the Aspromonte National Park on the fourth day. Hike through cave settlements and ghost villages, scale mountain peaks, enjoy wonderful views and bathe under a waterfall.

1st day: Rural Calabria

Today’s hike takes us from the little village Coccorino to our local mountain, Monte Poro, where a large part of the local cheese specialties are produced (sheep’s cheese, ricotta …). During the ascent there is a breathtaking view of Capo Vaticano. Once on the mountain we will enjoy a lunch in a typical restaurant and taste all local specialties. The descent leads us south to the village of Joppolo. (Hike time 5 hours, elevation gain: 400 m upwards, 600 m downwards)

2nd day: The Caves of Zungri

Our hike begins at the caves once inhabited by Basilian monks and dug in tuff, which leads us on narrow paths through rustic countryside to the ghost village of Papaglionti and the remains of a Roman villa. A wonderful hike that offers a lot of history in a breathtaking landscape. (Hike time 4 hours, elevation gain: 500 m)

3rd day: Breathtaking Sea-View

In no other place in Calabria are mountain and sea as close as on the Costa Viola near Palmi! Here the Aspromonte falls almost vertically into the sea, and here there is a narrow path that hovers between the sky and the sea, which the locals affectionately call “Tracciolino” (little track) that leads along the mountain side of Monte Sant’Elia. When the weather is clear, there is a wonderful view of the Costa Viola, the Aeolian Islands and the Strait of Messina, and sometimes even the Etna.

Hike time: 3,5 hours, Elevation gain: 300 m

4th day: Both sides of Calabria in one day (Aspromonte National Park)

One mountain, two seas, two landscapes with completely different vegetation, two worlds and two hikes to see and experience a lot of Aspromonte in one day! Our first hike leads us through the lush green vegetation of the Tyrrhenian side to one of the more than 500 waterfalls in the Aspromonte, which plummet to the valley via rocks, some of which are more than 500 million years old. If you are not afraid of the cold water, you can take a refreshing bath under the waterfall. After a short drive over the main ridge, our second hike begins through the barren and dry landscape of the Ionian side and takes us to the summit of Monte Tre Pizzi, from where we enjoy a unique view of the high peaks of the Aspromonte and onto the coast until the Ionian Sea. (Hike time: 4 hours, Elevation gain: 400 m)
